Roman Martin ÖLLER

Roman Martin has been studying and playing the zither in the special field of Vienna tuning, a new part of the UNESCO World Culture Heritage immaterial, since he was eight years old.
This typical „Viennese" sound, as we know it from the international movie „The Third Man" with Orson Welles, gives his instrument a particularly characteristic and harmonies touch.
Already during his school years, Roman Martin gave solo performances at the Vienna Konzerthaus. After a commitment at the Theater des Westens in Berlin, where he was allowed to accompany the famous Austrian actor Fred Liewehr on the zither, he graduated from the Private University of Vienna with the state degree.
In 1999 he played the zither solo from the waltz by Johann Strauss „Geschichten aus dem Wienerwald" at the New Year´s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in the Wiener Musikvereinssaal. The conductor was Lorin Maazel. As a result, Roman Martin was engaged again as a soloist by the Vienna Philharmonics for the Concert of the Republic at the Vienna State Opera under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
A three-week solo concert tour took him to Japan, where he performed in all major cities including Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
He also often performed with renewed orchestras such as the Niederösterreichische Tonkünstler, State Orchestra Stuttgart and the Vienna Johann Strauss Kapelle.
His own compositions especially for zither have been released on CD.
